• "When did you start putting on makeup?" Chisom asked, watching her roommate struggle to apply mascara.

    "Lately," Danielle replied, still focused on the mirror.

    "I don't know what this is, but you have to stop it," Chisom said, getting out of bed. She slipped into her fluffy pink slippers and walked into the bathroom.

    "Are you jealous of me?" Danielle shouted after her.

    Chisom burst into laughter.

    A few minutes later, she came out, wiping her face with a towel. Standing akimbo, she looked at her roommate, who now resembled a runaway clown.

    "Why would I be jealous of you?"

    "Then why are you opposing my choice of appearance?" Danielle asked, trying to fix her hair.

    "You're changing yourself to fit into that flashy group you joined last week. You're trying to please them, but you're displeasing yourself. In the end, you'll only confuse yourself," Chisom said, climbing back into bed.

    Danielle pouted, silently reflecting on what Chisom had just said.

    ---

    Have you ever found yourself doing things you normally wouldn’t, just to fit in or impress others?

    Maybe you’ve compromised your values or changed your appearance — not because you wanted to, but because you were afraid of being left out.

    Here’s the truth:

    People-pleasers often try to satisfy everyone but end up pleasing no one. The people you're trying so hard to impress may never be satisfied — and worse, they might even see you as fake. At the end of the day, you lose yourself.

    So don't live to please people.

    Be true to yourself. That’s where real confidence lies.

  • I can vividly remember the first time i walked in for an interview in Jos. Before then i had prepared for every question except salary requirements.
    When i was asked, i panicked and said "pay me anything" but then they insisted i give a figure.. i was going to say 100,000 naira but i couldnt, it seemed like a huge money.. i ended up asking for 30,000 naira because of fear of loosing the opportunity. I worked as hard as everyone else having the same Bsc just to realise later on that i was the lowest paid. But during that ****** i gained experience, i added value to myself and confidence boosted. This time around when i walked in for the position of a sales manager in a bubbling city like Abuja, i knew better than to let history repeat itself. I researched their pay range and negotiated higher, when the interview was over, i walked out confidently like a boss and guess what i got the job!.

    Kill fear with value and experience. If you loose self esteem is cause you havent gained value. Believe in yourself that you can do it and then work on yourself.

    Do you think negotiation skill is important in every organisation? Have you had such experience? Please share in the comment section

  • THINGS THAT CAN KILL YOUR DREAM

    Fear: Fear is one of the most significant obstacles that can stop people from pursuing their dreams. Fear of failure, fear of the unknown, fear of rejection, fear of what others might think all these fears can hold you back and prevent you from taking risks or stepping out of your comfort zone.

    Lack of focus: If you don't have a clear idea of what you want to achieve, it's difficult to work towards that goal. Without a specific target in mind, you might find yourself wandering aimlessly and lacking the drive to take action.

    Negative self-talk: The way you talk to yourself can have a profound impact on your ability to pursue your dreams. If you're constantly telling yourself that you're not good enough, or that you'll never make it, you're likely to lose motivation and give up on your aspirations.

    Lack of perseverance: Achieving your dreams often requires hard work, dedication, and perseverance. If you give up too easily when faced with setbacks or obstacles, you may struggle to make progress towards your goals.

    Lack of support: Having a strong support system can make a big difference in your ability to achieve your dreams. Surrounding yourself with people who encourage and believe in you can give you the confidence and motivation to keep working towards your goals, even when things get tough.

  • **The Silent Professional: Overcoming Imposter Syndrome in the Workplace**

    ## The Invisible Barrier to Professional Excellence

    Do you recognize yourself in these scenarios? Perhaps you refrain from contributing valuable insights during crucial meetings. Maybe you downplay your achievements during performance evaluations. Or you might find yourself reluctant to pursue advancement opportunities that align with your capabilities.

    These behaviors aren't merely personality quirks—they're manifestations of a phenomenon that affects countless high-potential professionals: imposter syndrome.

    The indicators are subtle yet powerful:

    * Hesitation to articulate your perspectives in collaborative settings
    * Persistent self-doubt despite objective evidence of competence
    * Avoidance of challenging assignments that could showcase your abilities
    * Perfectionism that paralyzes decision-making
    * Defensive reactions to constructive feedback
    * Self-sabotaging internal dialogue
    * Disproportionate anxiety around potential missteps or evaluation
    * Reluctance to engage with high-visibility responsibilities
    * Unfavorable self-comparison with colleagues
    * Allowing past setbacks to define your professional identity
    * Strategic self-deprecation to manage others' expectations
    * Tolerance of detrimental workplace dynamics

    ## Constructing a Framework for Professional Confidence

    If these patterns resonate with your experience, consider implementing these transformative strategies:

    ### Reclaim Your Professional Voice
    Your silence isn't a natural state—it's a learned response. Remember that your employment is predicated on your ability to contribute solutions and perspectives. When intimidation silences you, both you and your organization suffer the consequences.

    ### Acknowledge Your Value Proposition
    If inadequacy is your dominant narrative, examine two possibilities: insufficient preparation or unrecognized strengths. The former requires strategic action; the latter demands a perceptual shift.

    ### Implement the "One Meeting-One Voice" Principle
    While not every gathering requires your input, your primary meetings should consistently feature your voice. Question the value of your attendance if your perspective remains unshared.

    ### Execute a Weekly Empowerment Protocol
    Restructure your upcoming week with intentional focus on meaningful contribution. Establish metrics to evaluate your progress by week's end, celebrating incremental improvements in your professional presence.

    ## Beyond the Basics: Your Transformation Journey

    Professional confidence isn't achieved through isolated tactics but through sustained practice and mindset reconstruction. The strategies outlined here represent the foundation of a comprehensive approach to reclaiming your professional authority.

    For those committed to substantive change in this dimension of their career development, additional resources await your engagement. These tools will facilitate a deeper transformation in how you perceive and present your professional capabilities.

    The workplace needs your authentic contribution. Your voice matters. Your insights create value. Today, choose to embody the professional confidence that aligns with your true capabilities.

  • WHEN YOU BECOME DISTRACTED AND LOSE FOCUS;

    • YOU LOSE CONFIDENCE — losing focus causes you to become unsure of yourself, your vision or your plan.

    • YOU LOSE CONSISTENCY — losing focus causes you to lose the time, energy and momentum necessary to fulfill your mission.

    • YOU LOSE CHANCES — losing focus causes you to miss out on opportunities for advancement and growth.

    • YOU LOSE CREDIBILITY — losing focus causes others to lose confidence in you, your abilities or your stability (resulting in an unwillingness to invest in your dream, vision or venture).

    • YOU LOSE CONNECTIONS — losing focus causes your relationships to gradually die from a lack of care, concern, consideration or concentration.

    • YOU LOSE CASH — losing focus can directly impact your finances by robbing you of a job, a career, a company or an important business deal.

    You cannot afford to lose focus in this season! Don’t wait for someone to “stir” you through inspiration or something to “provoke” you through obligation.

    Take an inventory of your life—who/what is necessary and who/what is not, who/what is draining you and who/what is sustaining you—then make the hard decisions necessary to recover your focus!

    Hope this made little sense?

  • Putting Faith Into Practice

    Faith is essentially trust, which is a pivotal part of following Jesus.

    Hebrews 11:6 says, “Without faith it is impossible to please God..." And Ephesians 2:8 explains, “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.”

    So we shouldn’t put too much faith in our own faith, but put our faith in God. Only He can create, save, and sustain. We can't know all things, but we can know Him—who knows all things. Which is why we would be wise to put our trust in Him.

    But putting our faith into practice isn’t always easy. The writer of Hebrews tells us that faith begins with having confidence in the things we hope for. More than that, it is having assurance for things we cannot see.

    While this sounds like a contradiction, faith actually requires us to believe in something outside of ourselves. If we could see it and measure it, it wouldn’t require faith. For instance, we read in Scripture that God created the earth and everything in it. But we weren’t there when it happened. It requires faith to believe that.

    Jesus says that those who believe in Him will inherit eternal life—but that’s a promise that has yet to come. We have to have faith that Jesus will keep His promise, and that one day we will be in heaven with Him.

    Faith is the assurance that what God promised will happen. It is the confidence that what Jesus said is actually true. This is why people in Scripture faithfully waited for God to fulfill His promises toward them. Most of them might not have seen that fulfillment in their lifetime, but they had faith that God would still follow through.

    Take some time to consider your own faith. Is your faith filled with confident hope? Pray for God to give you the assurance that all of His promises will come true. And as you do that, learn from the stories mentioned in Hebrews 11 on what it means to put faith into practice.
